As a fashion designer there's nothing better than having someone wanting to buy your pieces. So how do you get your collection to the public? Well how about selling it to boutiques. Suprisingly, there are alot of boutiques in New York City that are willing to sell pieces from up and coming designers boutiques. It's all about research. First look at a designer that's already selling to boutiques. It's call looking at your competition. Fashion is a business and it's important to remember that. It's usually listed under stockist or avaliable at (you get the point). Or the easy way to find the boutiques is to google. Search for emerging designers and you will see a list of boutiques come up. There are online boutiques as well boutiques with store fronts. The benefits online is alot of boutiques allow you to keep the pieces and you only send it to them once an order has been placed. As far as store front, you get to send your friend there and take pics in front to your collection (just kidding) . The benefits is instant gratification. Your customer gets to have your collection instantly instead of having to wait for it to be shipped. Another place I found boutiques were on Lucky magazine website. The point is you have to do your research and you will be able to find the right boutiques for your collection. So know you found your boutique how do you approach them.
1. Make sure your collection is well made (VERY VERY IMPORTANT)
2. online boutiques send a message introducing yourself and describing your collection. Make sure to include a link to your or include pictures
3. For store fronts you can send an email like discussed above or you can make a phone call. When you call introduce your self and ask to set up an appointment to show your collection.
4. Persistence is the key not all boutiques will like your boutique just remember to keep trying.
